It’s the 27th of yet another month. A good time to share some background.

You’re probably wondering what is SEVEN27. So this genius creature called Omang felt like a misunderstood misfit of society. As a result Omang created a universe of its own – a depiction of unspoken conversations and conflicts of being a trapped child with mismanaged talent, energy and desire. This depiction was of seven different 27 year old people. They are of different genders and since this was a genius trapped in the surroundings of a township in 2017, the characters are from the background of young black South Afrikans that were born in the late 80’s. That means pre 1994 – predemocracy. And that will coerce the image of the late Rolihlahla Mandela. Known as the first black president of South Afrika and also known for spending 27 years in prison.

Then 27 that has prison mannerisms – remeber this child Omang was trapped. Trapped in a place ze didn’t belong and couldn’t fit in. Trapped with dreams too big for zeir empty pockets. Trapped in its mind and emotions. A prisoner with an unknown conviction.

If you are 27 years or older…think of the year when you were 27 years of age…chances are very high that something occurred in your life..you know what, please write back to us of your 27th year experience. Maybe it was your first car, your first house, a baby, a loss, a divorce, a marriage, a premonition, a diagnosis, a revelation, a reonciliation, a breakthrough, a breakdown, a break-in, a break-up, a big break…whatever that was big…send it to us.

Now back to the SEVEN27 background…subconsciously at 27 years you are sort of “expected by societal norms” to have already got your ducks in a row. Subconsciously 25 years is like the benchmark of your life where you are venturing into what should be your “stable life going forward”. And if by this age you are still unstable, trust, your family is very worried. Now come age 27 and still nada then your fam is really pissed. The years that follow thereafter are family talks about knocking on 30 years doors. And you start feeling otherwise, if you care about this distorting noise. Suddenly you feel shunned from heavens doors. Deserted by greatness or God if you are… Now you are infected with the poison of negativity. There’s pressure and burden.

Well back to the background.
So this was Omang’s peace of mind, escape by confronting it in creating art. Omang created a beast called SEVEN27. A concept, an art platform. And this beast is slowly breaking the leash to be a niche.
Seven27 has become a calling, the numbers appear everywhere, everyday, all the time.
Twice a day it’s like New Year, at 7:27 am and at 7:27pm
Every year on the 27th of the 7th month, this baby celebrates it’s birthday. It’s a Leo child.
